“Working together to better nourish and protect the planet.”
Lesaffre, Marcq-en-Barœul, France
Parent Company of Lesaffre North America, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
A key global player in fermentation for almost two centuries, Lesaffre, with a €3 billion turnover, employed 11,000 people in 185 countries. On the strength of this experience and diversity, Lesaffre collaborated with customers, partners, and researchers to find ever more relevant answers to the needs of food, health, nature, and respect for the environment. Thus, every day, Lesaffre explored and revealed the infinite potential of microorganisms. To nourish 9 billion people in a healthy way by 2050, while making the most of the planet’s resources, was a vital and life-sustaining cause. Lesaffre believed that fermentation was one of the most promising answers to this challenge.
Lesaffre was the largest producer of yeast in the world and served as one of the largest ingredient suppliers in commercial baking. As a trusted partner to bakers, Lesaffre worked to make the art of bread-making more productive, creative, and inspiring. From an at-home kitchen to an industrial-scale baking plant, Lesaffre provided yeast and ingredient solutions that scaled. Lesaffre began operating in the United States in 1978 and grew through a series of acquisitions in the 1980s. Lesaffre North America was headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with major plants located in Alabama and Iowa. Red Star Yeast was acquired by Lesaffre in 2001 and continued to be marketed under that name in the U.S. and Canada. For more information, visit www.Lesaffre.com and www.LesaffreBaking.com.
Envera, West Chester, Pennsylvania, a Lesaffre company
Envera was founded on the idea of reducing the presence of harsh chemicals, fertilizers, antibiotics, and pesticides on our planet through the use of Earth-conscious microorganisms. Since 2004, Envera's team of scientists, specialists, and technicians had been dedicated to helping their clients achieve their business goals through the discovery, isolation, and industrial application of bacteria. Envera paid meticulous attention to their fermentation processes and managed their expansive culture collection. They also took great care to be a biosciences company that served as a collaborative partner every step of the way. That’s why Envera offered its expertise to help customers in everything from product analysis to regulatory support.
As part of Lesaffre's ongoing expansion strategy in nutrition and health, the company purchased the majority interest of Envera in November 2017. Lesaffre was a key global player in the yeast and fermentation industries. In their corporate partnership, Envera functioned as a closely linked but independent entity. Specific Lesaffre affiliates became Envera customers, and Envera continued to supply products and technology to companies beyond Lesaffre. The parent company's global presence gave Envera greater access to additional customers, which translated into accelerated sales growth. Together, this alliance was committed to using its biotechnological advances to help the world become healthier and more sustainable. To learn more, visit www.Envera.com.
