An Update on the Changing Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Landscape

The French-American Chamber of Commerce and the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce partnered to present a dynamic, interactive panel discussion on the latest issues impacting your company or organization's cybersecurity. There was also an update on the European Union's General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) that went into effect last year and caught Google off guard with a $57 Million fine in January.

The event was held at the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia in the Bellevue. FACC President Jonathan A. Grode, Esq., welcomed the Members and guests and introduced Hans Petter “HP” Andresen, the new President of the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce, and Michael Scullin, Esq., Honorary Consul of France in Philadelphia and Wilmington. 

 

The discussion featured panelists Rebecca Rakoski, Esq., Co-Founder of XPAN Law Group, Atif Ghauri, Cybersecurity Practice Leader for Mazars USA, and Shiraz Saeed, National Practice Leader, Cyber Risk, for Starr Insurance Companies. The panel was moderated by Jordan Fischer, Esq., Co-Founder of XPAN Law Group.

 

Some of the interesting topics discussed by the panel included overcoming hurdles to creating a multidisciplinary approach to cybersecurity and data privacy, addressing cyber threats on the horizon for 2019 and 2020, conflicting concerns arising between different sectors of a company, and the impact of the GDPR year after its implementation. Other current topics discussed were new ways to solve security and privacy problems,upcoming regulatory/compliance changes for this year, and considering what role the courts play in forecasting the direction of cybersecurity and privacy litigation.

Guest were encouraged to share their concerns and ask questions to receive guidance to help them navigate the changing data privacy landscape and mitigate the cyber risks that leave your business vulnerable to attack. 

Matt Adams, FACC Co-VP of Programs & Chair of the Young Professionals Committee, thanked the panelists, and announced the FACC’s next event, a Business Networking Party at J'AIME French bakery presented by the FACC Young Professionals on March 7th,and announced the Business Card Drawing for 2 complimentary admissions. HP drew the winning business card and announced congratulations to Caitlyn Eltzholtz, Operations Manager, XPAN Law Group.

Atif Ghauri, CISSP, CCSA, CISM, is Principal, Cybersecurity Practice Leader for Mazars USA, a French-American accounting and consulting firm. He is a renowned cybersecurity expert with 20 years of experience in management consulting, technical and sales operations, product management, and business development. An innovator in cybersecurity, Atif received a patent in security analytics on embedded consumer devices monitoring user activity anomalies. Prior to joining Mazars, Atif led a $250 Million, geographical expansion initiative as CTO of the HERJAVEC GROUP, a global cybersecurity firm best known from TV's Shark Tank. He went on to head sales and strategy for their most profitable and fastest growing business as Senior Vice President of Managed Security Services.  Atif serves as an Adjunct Professor in Cybersecurity at Drexel University. He received a Master’s in Technology Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s from Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University.
